Devin is now a 100% CO2 neutral product

Devin bottles are climate green from 2021! The certification granted to Devin JSC reflects the company’s commitments and measures to reduce emissions related to its operations, indirect emissions throughout the value chain and offset residual emissions through the largest wind farm in Bulgaria. The Bulgarian bottled water market leader is now a certified carbon neutral company, certified by the international climate consultancy CO2logic and validated and accredited by the independent certification body Vinçotte.
“We are incredibly proud to announce such an ambitious milestone. Our products are 100% climate neutral throughout the entire product lifecycle: from the transportation of materials to our factory, to the production of our waters, to the delivery to all points of sale. Consumers can drive change by buying products from companies committed to fighting the world’s climate challenges,” said Petya Manastirska, Devin’s Head of Sustainability and Quality. This carbon neutral milestone was not achieved overnight. To become carbon neutral, Devin first calculated its entire carbon footprint from production and manufacturing to the delivery of finished products in 2019 and took concrete steps to avoid and reduce the majority of its emissions. As shown in the company’s first sustainability report, published in mid-2020, per liter of bottle, energy consumption decreased by 5.4% in just one year. The Devin factory also started operating on 100% green electricity, resulting in a reduction of over 6,000 tons of carbon dioxide per year (-18% of Devin’s total CO2 footprint). The company is optimizing storage, loading and transportation processes and has changed its purchasing policy to encourage suppliers to use shorter product and material cycles.
For more than a decade, DEVIN packaging has been improved with lightweight and eco-design, and all bottles, including the cap and label, continue to be 100% recyclable. To offset the unavoidable emissions of the distribution and achieve climate neutrality, JSC Devin purchases verified carbon credits from green energy. The investment is directed to the largest in Bulgaria – St. Nikola wind farm, operated by AES.
Notes:
• The CO2-Neutral® label is a carbon-neutral certification for companies, brands, products, services and events for mitigating the greenhouse gases associated with their activities. The label is issued by the international climate consultancy CO2logic and verified by the accredited and independent certification body Vinçotte.
• Spadel CO2 calculations are based on a new European methodology called Product Environmental Footprint (PEF). Combined with the new recognition of science-based targets, the figures are estimated to be extensive:
• Scope 1 = Energy used in factories (gas, fuel, wood)
• Scope 2 = Electricity used in factories
• Scope 3 = Supply chain (raw materials), distribution and packaging life cycle
