Are we consuming enough water?
The human body is very different and so is the need to drink water, so there is no fixed rule for how much water each person should drink. When thirst occurs, it actually means that the body has already lost 5% of its normal amount of fluid. Therefore, it is advisable to drink water proactively before the “big thirst” occurs. It is best if we always have a water bottle with us, because then we will not forget to drink and we can do it constantly. At work, a water bottle should also be on our desk at all times. The average estimated water requirement for the body is 28–35 ml per kilogram of body weight. For example, a person weighing 60 kg needs about 2.4 liters of water per day.
The body’s fluid balance can be assessed by the color of your urine (see table below). If you urinate infrequently and your urine is dark yellow, this means you should drink more water. On the other hand, if you urinate frequently and the result is light yellow or clear, yellowish urine, this means you are drinking enough (see table below).
When we drink enough water and our urine is clear, we are also excreting salts retained in the body and getting rid of swelling in the body. Swelling is a sign of chronic dehydration.
Lose weight by drinking water

Drinking water reduces appetite
It often happens that appetite is confused with thirst and we eat, when in fact, drinking a glass of water would be enough to satisfy our appetite. Drinking water right before a meal can help prevent overeating. According to a study, people who drank a glass of water before each meal consumed significantly fewer calories compared to those who did not.
